Funerals
As an assembly of Christian believers, we are invited to focus our lives on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At the time of death of a Christian, the church community gathers to celebrate the Order of Christian Funerals (OCF) in order to:
- “offer worship, praise, and thanksgiving to God for the gift of a life which has now been returned to God, the author of life and hope of the just;” (Order of Christian Funerals, number 5)
- intercede on behalf of the deceased and “to commend the dead to God’s merciful love” and to plead for the forgiveness of their sins; (Order of Christian Funerals, number 6)
- minister to the sorrowing and to console them “with the comforting Word of God and the sacrament of the Eucharist.” (Order of Christian Funerals, number 4)
