| Dance Artist! | |||||||||||||||||||||||
| During the week of March 1st - 5th, Sacred Heart School was graced with the presence of Terrence Smith, an Artist in Residence in the area of American Folk Dancing. We enjoyed a fantastic week of whirls and twirls as we learned a variety of American Folk Dances. He provided a positive experience of dance for everyone involved, and that included all students, teachers, administration, and even some support staff and parents. Multi-age groups spent time everyday involved in many types of American Folk Dances. There was little time for rest as each group danced away their hour a day. It was great exercise and fun! Terrence and his wife also treated us to much live accompaniment as they played the drum, guitar, violin, banjo, harmonica, and pennywhistle for many of the dances. Some of us even learned to play the pennywhistle. One of our fifth grade students played violin with Terrence one day for the dances.
We are looking forward to Terrence's return on the 13th and 14th of May when he will teach us the Maypole Dance, complete with a full-sized Maypole! Come join us for the fun! |
